TRI HITA KARANA
The Balinese philosophy Tri Hita Karana – translating to ‘three causes of well-being’ – inspires Chesa Canggu to ensure sustainable tourism development, the conservation of its natural environment, and promotion of the region’s social and cultural aspects.
“Especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, modern travellers are much more conscious about environmental protection, their carbon footprint, and slow travel. Bali is an island with resources and cultural practices that have attracted tourists from around the world for decades,” Kusuma highlights.
“The aim of development is not merely to achieve business growth but rather to ensure balance between community growth and conservation of the Canggu environment, from which the region’s society as a whole can benefit,” he emphasises.
The hotel has a number of environmentally conscious initiatives ingrained within its philosophy to achieve sustainable and equitable business development, which can be witnessed in both its daily operations and the end products delivered to guests.
Some of these practices include using locally sourced products to support tourism within the surrounding area.

In addition, Balinese culture and values are practised, and where possible, often involve guests.
“Before starting the day, each staff member is encouraged to pray in the local temple to receive blessings for the day,” he examples.
Each of the facilities also promotes energy conservation through planting vegetation, saving water and electricity, recycling waste, and promoting the use of biodegradable plastic.
On top of this, both guests and staff partake in clean-ups on Batu Bolong Beach, emphasising Chesa Canggu’s deep commitment to environmental preservation.
Going forwards, the hotel wishes to maintain its position as a chic boutique with a difference, both for its growing base of visitors and the surrounding environment.
“Chesa Canggu is the ideal destination for travellers who seek to find a calm retreat that still offers the ability to work productively, access vibrant partying spots in Canggu, shop, eat, wander around, and even glimpse the cultural and historical side of Bali through its temples or the beautiful nature,” Kusuma concludes.

A NEW WAY TO STAY
As a burgeoning destination in Indonesia, Canggu is known as a global village that caters to all manner of needs, whether travellers are seeking a rejuvenated retreat or vibrant nightlife.
With the mantra of ‘A New Way to Stay’, Chesa Canggu invites guests to step away from the hustle and bustle as soon as they step into the hotel, where the partying fades away into sounds of trickling water and lush green shaded gardens, making for a true retreat.
With this in mind, it is no wonder Chesa Canggu has received numerous 10/10 reviews on notable platforms such as TripAdvisor, Booking.com, and Google – a testament to its service excellence and vision of perfection in hospitality.
“Staying at Chesa Canggu becomes more than just staying in a hotel room in Canggu; it is an experience of pure holiday joy, warm hospitality, and perfect service,” Kusuma shares.
