Lion Monument
A poignant yet beautiful display of loss, Lucerne’s internationally revered Lion Monument is an imposing stone lion that is more than just a towering statue.
Nestled in a rocky grotto in a quaint park setting, the 10 by six-metre work was created to honour the Swiss Guards slaughtered during the Storming of the Tuileries in Paris in 1792. This proud landmark may be carved in stone, but it is deceptively alive and visited by approximately 1.4 million people each year.
